The Villisca Axe Murders of 1912
In the spring of 2004, a visitor to the Villisca Axe Murder House captured an anomaly on video tape that had quite a few people pretty excited. A few months later, after several phone calls to several paranormal shows by this visitor, he was invited to appear on Proof Positive: Evidence of the Paranormal that was then airing on the Sci Fi Channel.
Members of the Miller's Paranormal Team, who had done several investigations in the house, were also invited as well as Kelly and Tammy Rundle with Fourth Wall Films.
The Proof Positive show originally premiered in October of 2004 and followed a format that was designed to either "prove" or "disprove" evidence of paranormal activity. The show used case histories, scientific developments and experts to examine the sometimes blurry line between what they deemed "science fiction and fact."
A prior taping of an episode of ABC's "Scariest Places on Earth" television show and the inclusion of several fake photographs had everyone a little leery of how the show would actually play out once it was taped. Miller's Paranormal did not validate the videotape as being anything paranormal and during the preparations for the taping did not feel that the producers of the show were actually interested in anything other than the video evidence provided by this one visitor to the house.
Photographs and EVP's offered to the Sci-Fi Channel by the Miller's team were ignored and prior to the taping of the show, the team decided that they would not participate. The Rundles also opted out. When the owner of the videotape seemed to become obsessed with the amount of money he could make off his video, the Linn's also severed ties with him.
The Villisca episode aired on Nov. 3, 2004. Not suprisingly, the experts declared that the anomoly that appeared in the tape was simply a flash of light or some other such explainable and recreatable event. The video was declared "Proof Negative." Unfortunately, the press that surrounded this one taping of this one event was fairly negative and the disbelievers used the show to proudly proclaim the absence of anything paranormal in the house.
Over the years, the continued documentation of unexplained photographic, video and audio evidence has continued to suggest that something unusual and unknown does exist in the Villisca Axe Murder House. To the untrained eye, dust particles, moisture and on occasion, even insects can appear strange and potentially "of another world."
It is with this in mind, that we often send photographs, videos and audio tapes submitted by visitors to actual paranormal investigators for their opinions. We also feel it is important for visitiors to understand that the goal of paranormal investigators is to find reasonable explanations for what appears unusual rather than to actually prove that something is.
Despite the ruling on this one piece of potential evidence, we will continue to encourage our visitors to submit any and all photographs, videotapes and audio tapes to investigative teams and we will continue to invite people from all over the world to come to their own conclusions.
We strongly recommend that you take the time to visit the Millers Paranormal Research Group's website and to read in depth, their investigative reports on their many visits to the Villisca Axe Murder House.
The Millers Team is one of the most thorough and informative groups of investigators that we've had the pleasure to meet. Below is a photograph of an apparition that was taken by the Millers on one of their last visits to the house. Although it was submitted to the producers of Proof Positive, they chose not to include it or any other evidence provided by the team in their show. Read their report, listen to the EVP's, take a look at the photographs and then come on down for a visit. Let us know whether your vote on Villisca is Proof Positive or Proof Negative!
In memory:
On October 29th of 2007, Joyce Morgan, a member of the Miller's Paranormal Research Group passed away. Joyce was instrumental in the Villisca Investigation and became a friend. She will be missed greatly by all of those who knew her.
