Caught on Tape ~ Videos and EVP's
Recorded in the Villisca Axe Murder House

This video clip was submitted by Gregory Adams of Abilene, Texas. Here's Greg's synopsis: "In this clip you will see the ball of glowing light that is coming from a lighted lantern that is sitting on the mirrored dresser in J.B. and Sarahs' bedroom on the far right. There is no question the lantern is the light source. It is the ONLY light source upstairs that evening. It's also the only light source close enough to make a glowing ball on the wall. There's no flashlights on. There isn't anyone else in the house. There isn't anyone walking around. We are way around in the parlor on the floor, in our sleeping bags, and just minutes away from being sound asleep. Just pay very close attention to the ball of light the entire clip. You will also see the light physically being blocked out at times. I'm covered with cold chills right now. The only explanation is that something was passing between the lantern and the wall."

This clip was submitted by Yvette, a Villisca Visitor in the Fall of 2002. Following is Yvette's account of her experience in the Villisca Axe Murder House. "For some reason I am very drawn to this story, and to the house. It is so hard to understand how someone could commit such a horrible atrocity to so many innocent victims, and as a mother knowing that such an act was committed to precious little innocent children, it saddens me. The area that bothered me the most was the area or cubby next to the attic that was assumed the murderer hid out in until the family fell asleep. To stand in that same area and imagine this monster huddled up there just gave me the creeps. The first moving image is probably the best. Look to the lower right hand side towards the floor of the doorway leading into the downstairs bedroom (It appears shortly after you hear someone in our group say "He's the Man," ). There were several others that I captured but I don't know if the image is too fuzzy or quick to capture on the Memory Card of my camcorder, but I wasn't able to see them on the clips I recorded for you.Strange!! We filmed in every room of that house, and we watched this tape several times, this room is the only room that we captured anything unusual like this on film. Enjoy!! Yvette

The orb in this clip shows up very quickly only 2 seconds into the video. The camera angle is sideways and the doorframe is along the lower edge. The orb appears very briefly almost running straight down the doorframe. This video clip was also submitted by Yvette.

Caught on Tape ~ Villisca EVPs
Electronic Voice Phenomena captured in the Villisca Axe Murder House
-
"If our personality survives, then it is strictly logical or scientific to assume that it retains memory, intellect, other faculties, and knowledge that we acquire on this Earth. Therefore ... if we can evolve an instrument so delicate as to be affected by our personality as it survives in the next life, such an instrument, when made available, ought to record something."
EVP, or electronic voice phenomena, is one of the most interesting areas of current ghost research. Investigators capture voices of unknown origin on recorders. But what are they? Where do they come from?
Electronic Voice Phenomenon is the recording of errant noises or voice messages to either analog or digital recorders with what appears to be no earthly explanation. Most believers of EVP maintain these are messages from beyond the grave.
They point to things such as "missing frequencies" or "frequency shifts" in a spectrum analysis of the recording as proof that no human alive could have spoken these words, or they offer the proof that the recording seems to answer a question asked of the "ghost" being sought.
These recordings are made when the recorder is alone, or under what is purported to be "controlled" circumstances. Often ghost hunters will record an EVP as their proof that an area is haunted.
EVP skeptics will tell you that the cross modulation of radio frequencies will produce this very effect. Analog electronics such as toasters, coffee makers or stereo amplifiers will pick up errant AM and FM transmissions and combine them in the same way an amplifier would in a mixing console. Although no such electronic devices exist in the Villisca Axe, many point to the electrical substation across the street from the house as the source of strange occurences. Others will point to the fact that because we "want" to hear something, our minds will create it.
Regardless of the arguments surrounding EVP recordings, we've received many purported to have been captured in the Villisca Axe Murder House. As always, our goal is to simply present what others have provided and to give you, our visitor, the opportunity to draw your own conclusions. We've received so many EVP's from our visitors that I've had trouble incorporating all of them into a webpage. I recently found an embeddable MP3 player so hopefully you'll find this a little more convenient than individual links. EVP's are best heard using a good set of headphones. Feel free to share your comments in the guestbook or blog and if you have any EVP's from Villisca you'd like to share, send them to me and I'll get them posted.
